White Label Partnership

In a white label partnership, one company sells another company's product under its own brand. The end customer sees only the reseller's name, and the original vendor stays invisible behind the product.

How it differs from reselling

A conventional reseller or value-added reseller sells a product the customer knows by name. In a white label arrangement the branding is replaced: the interface, the domain, the emails and often the support all carry the partner's identity. The customer may never learn who built the software.

Who it suits

Agencies are the classic white label buyer: they want to offer a capability to clients without building it, and without the client realising a third party is involved. It also appeals to larger platforms filling a gap in their suite quickly, and to companies entering a market where building from scratch would take too long.

For the vendor, the appeal is distribution volume: one white label partner can bring hundreds of end customers through a single relationship.

The trade-offs

The vendor gives up brand equity entirely. Every customer acquired this way builds the partner's brand, not the vendor's, which means no word of mouth, no reviews, no inbound demand and no case studies. It also creates concentration risk: if a large white label partner leaves, it takes its whole customer base with it, and the vendor has no direct relationship to fall back on.

Support is the other friction point. Customers report problems to the partner, who relays them to the vendor, which slows resolution and blurs accountability.

White label versus affiliate for agencies

An agency choosing between the two is really choosing between margin and effort. White label gives higher margin and full brand control, but the agency carries onboarding, support and billing. An affiliate or referral arrangement pays less per customer but costs the agency almost nothing to run, and the vendor handles the relationship. For most agencies adding a peripheral capability rather than a core one, the affiliate route is the better return on attention.
