Installing the tracking script

The tracking script records when a visitor arrives through an affiliate link. It sets a first-party cookie that only records that this visitor came through an affiliate, and it builds no visitor profile. Each program sets its own cookie window, from 1 to 365 days; new programs start at 60 days.

Install it in the header of your main domain and of every subdomain in your funnel, for example the app subdomain where people sign up (app.example.com). A signup on a different root domain can't be tracked.

Cookie consent: typically no cookie consent is needed: the Reditus cookie only records whether a signup came via an affiliate and builds no visitor profile. This is based on the opinion of a Dutch lawyer and may not apply in every country (for example Germany), so check your own local regulations. More in why you don't need to ask for cookie consent. If a consent banner holds the script back until a visitor accepts, signups from visitors who decline can't be credited to the affiliate.

Where to find the script

In the installation tab of your Reditus settings (the link works when you're logged in).

Add it to an HTML website

Paste the script before the closing </head> tag of every page, so it also runs on the pages affiliate links point to and on your signup page.

Add it through Google Tag Manager

  1. Log in to Google Tag Manager and open the container that runs on your website.
  2. Create a new tag of the type Custom HTML and paste the Reditus tracking script into it.
  3. Set the trigger to All Pages and save the tag.
  4. Submit and publish your changes.

Add it to a WordPress website

  1. Log in to your WordPress admin panel.
  2. Install a header and footer scripts plugin, if you don't have one yet.
  3. Open the plugin's settings, for example Settings > Header and Footer Scripts.
  4. Paste the tracking script into the Header box and save.

Check that it works

Open the test link on the installation tab: it works like an affiliate link. Then refresh the installation tab: the tracking script shows as verified once it is detected. A plain visit to your website doesn't verify the script, so always test with the test link.

Next step: the signup snippet. The tracking script records the click; the snippet records the signup.

Troubleshooting

The script is installed, but it doesn't verify

  • Test with the test link from the installation tab, not with a plain visit.
  • Check that the script is on every page, including the signup page and every subdomain in your funnel.
  • Google Tag Manager: check that you used the right container and that your changes are published.
  • Check that the script sits before the closing </head> tag.
  • Check that a consent banner isn't holding it back.
  • Still not verified? Ask us in the chat and tell us what you already checked.

My site uses a Content Security Policy

A strict Content Security Policy (CSP) can block the tracking script or the requests it makes. Your policy has to allow them, for example with img-src https://api.getreditus.com. Not sure what to add for your setup? Ask us in the chat.

My domain has a two-part ending, such as .co.uk

If the script doesn't work on a domain like that, ask us in the chat: these domains need a check on our side.
