How to exclude certain products from generating commissions
By default, affiliates earn commission on every payment a referred customer makes within your commission period: upgrades, extra seats and any other extra payment included. For example, on a 12-month commission schedule an upgrade bought in month 5 also earns commission.
You can exclude certain products from that. Companies usually exclude onboarding fees, service fees and other products with a lot of manual work or a person attached to them, often their pricier products.
How to exclude a product in Stripe
You add a bit of metadata to the product, or to one of its prices, in Stripe. Payments for it then don't create commissions.
- In Stripe, open your product catalog and select the product you want to exclude, for example your onboarding fee.
- Select the price you want to exclude.
- On the price page, go to Edit metadata.
- Add the key
commissions_disabledwith the valueyes, and save.
Want to exclude every price of a product at once? Add the same metadata on the product itself instead of on each price.
Our developer docs show the same steps with a screenshot: excluding plans and prices.
Good to know
- Stripe only. Excluding products with metadata works with the native Stripe connection. With the Payments API, Reditus only calculates commission on the payments you send it.
- In-app referral program: to stop a product from earning your advocates a reward, use the key
rewards_disabledwith the valueyesinstead. See excluding plans and prices for rewards.
