Write the program page a professional affiliate says yes to

After this lesson you can

Give affiliates what they check before applying: the offer in one line, assets they can use, a clear payout story and proof the product converts, then see it from their side by signing up to your own program.

A professional affiliate decides in about a minute whether to apply. They are not reading your mission. They are running arithmetic and looking for proof. The program page, and the marketplace listing if you have one, exist to make that minute go your way.

What they check, in order

The rate and the duration, together. Then the average deal size, because that is what turns the percentage into money; every marketplace listing shows it and every listing carries a commission calculator, so affiliates are doing the ten-client test on you before you know they exist. Then whether the product converts: customer logos, reviews, a site that looks like it has paying customers. Then whether there is anything to work with: assets, angles, a sentence they can paste.

Write the offer in one line that answers the first two. "30% for 24 months, average account $150 a month" is a page. "Competitive commissions" is a closed tab.

Give them something to publish this week

The assets that matter are not banners. They are the comparison angle against the tools your affiliates' readers already use, the two or three benefits in the words your best customers use, screenshots that show the product doing the thing, and a short piece of copy for a newsletter. The help article below lists them in priority order. An affiliate with the material publishes this month; an affiliate without it publishes never.

Coupon codes as well as links

For communities and agencies a code often beats a link: their audience gets a discount and the referral is still attributed, even when nobody clicked anything. Codes are created per affiliate, one Stripe coupon each, and they only work on the Stripe integration. If you bill through the API, links are the only option.

See it from their side

Sign up to your own program as an affiliate, with a second email address. You will see the application questions, the onboarding emails, the dashboard and the offer exactly as an applicant does. Most operators never look, and it shows.

Key takeaways

  • An affiliate checks rate and duration, then average deal size, then proof the product converts, then what there is to work with. In a minute.
  • Write the offer in one line with the rate, the duration and the average account value.
  • The assets that matter are angles and copy an affiliate can publish this week, not banners.
  • Coupon codes work for communities and agencies, one Stripe coupon per affiliate, Stripe only.
  • Sign up to your own program as an affiliate. You will see what they see.

The detail lives in the help centre

Do this before the next lesson

Each step says how much counts as done. Doing a third of it and moving on is how programs stall.

Questions we hear at this point

Do we need to be in the marketplace to run a program?

No. Every program has a program page and can invite affiliates by link. The marketplace listing, which needs Scale Up or Enterprise on an annual commitment plus a completed installation, adds inbound applications from the network and a place in the affiliate dashboard. Most companies validate with their own network on Growth first.

Can affiliates use a coupon code instead of a link?

Yes, on the Stripe integration. Each affiliate gets their own Stripe coupon, and a customer who uses it is attributed to that affiliate even without a click. The codes have to be separate coupons in Stripe, not one coupon with several names. On an API setup, tracking is by link only.
